Garage Door Safety Sensors: Technology, Alignment, and Toronto Code Requirements

Photoelectric safety sensors became mandatory on all new garage door openers sold in North America in 1993, following UL325 safety standards. These small devices prevent the door from closing on a person, pet, or object in the opening — yet they are among the most frequently misunderstood and improperly installed components in garage door systems. How Photoelectric Sensors Work
