Garage door panel replacement in Toronto & the GTA — what it is and what it costs
Garage door panel replacement means swapping out one or more damaged sections of a sectional garage door instead of buying a whole new door. It makes the most sense when a single section is dented or cracked — usually from vehicle impact, a broken window, or rust on the bottom panel — while the rest of the door, the tracks, springs and opener are still sound. Royal Garage Doors replaces individual panels across Toronto, Mississauga and the GTA, sourcing the new section to match your door's brand, profile and factory colour. Panel replacement runs $500–$1,000 + tax per panel depending on size, style and whether the section has windows. Because the matching panel often has to be ordered, same-day completion isn't always possible — but it's far cheaper than a full door. The service call is FREE with any work; a $120 diagnostic applies only if you choose not to proceed. When the model is discontinued or 30% or more of the panels are damaged, a full door from $1,350 is often the better value. Led by IDEA Certified technician Michael Thompson. Call 437-265-9995.
When to Replace a Panel vs the Whole Door
A modern garage door is built from horizontal sections, called panels, stacked on top of one another and joined by hinges. Because each section is a separate part, you don't always have to replace the entire door when one is damaged — you can swap out just the affected panel. Replacing a single section keeps your existing tracks, rollers, springs and opener in place, so it is typically far cheaper than a full door and much faster to schedule.
Panel replacement is the right call when one or two sections are damaged, the rest of the door is structurally sound, and the model and colour are still produced — for example a single dent from backing into the door, a cracked window section, or rust starting on the bottom panel. A full replacement usually wins when 30% or more of the panels are damaged, the door is old or rusting throughout, the model has been discontinued so an exact match no longer exists, or you simply want a new look and a fresh full-door warranty. In those cases a new door from $1,350 + tax often costs little more than chasing several matched panels — see our garage door replacement page. Our technician assesses both options on-site and gives an honest recommendation at no charge.
Common Panel Damage We Fix
All door brands serviced — 437-265-9995
Vehicle Impact
Backing into or bumping the door creases or caves in a section. If only one or two panels are hit and the door still tracks straight, we replace those sections rather than the whole door.
Dents & Creases
Hail, sports balls or ladders leave dents and bends. Steel sections that are creased through the rib usually need replacement; we match the panel profile and finish.
Rust-Through Bottom Section
The bottom panel takes road salt, snow and standing water, so it rusts first. When the rest of the door is solid, replacing just the bottom section restores the look and seal.
Cracked or Broken Windows
A cracked window insert or a broken window section can often be fixed by replacing just the glazing or the single glazed panel, keeping the rest of the door intact.
Warped or Delaminated Panels
Sun, moisture and age can warp a section or delaminate an insulated panel. A warped section binds in the tracks; replacing it restores smooth, quiet operation.
Forced-Entry or Storm Damage
Break-in attempts and high winds can buckle a panel or bend its hinges. We assess whether one section plus hardware restores the door or whether full replacement is safer.
Matching Your Panel — Brand, Colour & Profile
The key to a good panel replacement is the match. A new section has to line up with your door's profile (the raised pattern), insulation type, window layout and factory colour, or the repair will stand out. As an independent company that installs garage doors of many brands, we source replacement panels from the major manufacturers sold in Canada and identify your door by its model markings, hinge layout and section dimensions before ordering — so the new panel slots in cleanly.
Where a section can be matched, the new panel is ordered to the same brand and shade. If your door has been discontinued and an exact match no longer exists, we discuss the best path — a close-match panel, professional repainting to blend the door, or, when several panels are involved, a full replacement. You can preview door styles, profiles and finishes on our garage door designer tool, and we install the full lineup we sell across the GTA.

Frequently Asked Questions — Panel Replacement
Answers from Michael Thompson, IDEA Certified — 15+ Years Experience
How much to replace one garage door panel?
+Replacing a single garage door panel costs $500–$1,000 + tax in the GTA, depending on the door size, panel style, insulation and whether the section has windows. The service call is FREE when you proceed; a $120 diagnostic applies only if you choose not to. Because the matching panel usually has to be ordered, same-day completion isn't always possible. Call 437-265-9995.
Can you replace just one section?
+Yes. If only one or two sections are damaged — a vehicle dent, a cracked window panel, or a rusted bottom section — we can replace just those panels and keep the rest of the door, provided the model and colour are still available. This is far cheaper than a full door and keeps your existing tracks, springs and opener.
What if my door panel is discontinued?
+If your door model or colour has been discontinued, an exact-match panel may no longer be available. We then discuss the best options — a close-match panel, repainting to blend, or, when 30% or more of the panels are damaged or the door is old, a full replacement from $1,350 that resets the finish and warranty across the whole door.
Panel replace vs full door — which?
+Replace the panel when one or two sections are damaged, the door is otherwise sound, and the model is still made. Choose a full door when 30% or more of the panels are damaged, the door is old or rusting throughout, the model is discontinued, or you want a new look and warranty. Our technician gives an honest on-site recommendation at no charge.
Do you match the colour?
+Yes. We source the replacement panel in your door's brand, profile and factory colour wherever it is still produced. If the exact shade is no longer available, we offer close-match panels or professional repainting so the repaired door blends in. Preview finishes on our designer tool.
